How to draw a frog, step by step
A happy frog face from four circles, one wide oval and one straight line. It is all about the big bulging eyes on top.
Draw this frog on screen →Mouse, finger or stylus, each stroke scored. Unlocks free when you sign in and reach a 14-day practice streak.
You'll need
Paper and a pencil, then pens or crayons to colour in. Or nothing at all: draw it on screen and each stroke gets a score for how straight, round and smooth it is.
Steps
-
Step 1: the left eye
Draw a circle for the left eye near the top of the page.
-
Step 2: the right eye
Draw the right eye the same size, leaving a gap between them about as wide as one eye.
-
Step 3: the head
Draw a wide, flat oval for the head, overlapping the bottom half of both eyes.
-
Step 4: the left pupil
Draw a smaller circle inside the left eye for the white of the eye.
-
Step 5: the right pupil
Draw the right one to match.
-
Step 6: the mouth
Draw a long straight line across the face for the mouth.
-
Step 7: colour it in
Colour the frog bright green and leave the inner eye circles white with a black pupil. Add two small nostril dots, pink cheeks at the ends of the mouth, and turn the ends of the mouth up into a smile.
Tips
- Overlap the head and the eyes: the eyes should sit on top of the head, not float above it.
- A wide head and a mouth that goes almost from side to side make the frog look happy.
- Draw the inner eye circles in one smooth stroke each; they are small, so slow down a little but don't stop.
Questions
What shapes make a frog?
Four circles (two eyes and two eye whites), one wide oval for the head and one straight line for the mouth.
How do I draw a frog sitting?
Under the head, draw a rounder oval for the body, two big bent back legs at the sides, and two short front legs in the middle.
Is this frog drawing good for kids?
Yes: it is only circles, an oval and a line, and it is easy to make different faces just by changing the mouth.
