How to draw with a mouse
A mouse is held in the palm and moved by the wrist and arm, so it never feels like a pen. You can still draw clean lines with one; it just takes the right habits.
Tips for smoother mouse lines
- Lower the pointer speed in your system settings while drawing, so big arm movements make small, controlled lines.
- Move the arm, not the wrist, and give yourself desk space.
- Ghost first: move along the path without pressing, then press and drag in one go.
- Draw fast. A slow drag shows every tremor.

When a drawing tablet helps
A pen tablet lets you hold a pen and draw with the same motions as on paper, and most add pressure for thick and thin lines. If you draw digitally more than now and then, an entry-level tablet is usually the biggest single upgrade. On this site you can compare: practise a week with the mouse, then a week with a pen, and watch your scores.
Score yourself against yourself
Mouse scores here run lower than pen scores, so compare with your own past days, not with others.

Questions
Is it possible to draw well with a mouse?
Yes, people make full illustrations with one, often using shapes and curves tools. For freehand lines, a pen or stylus is easier.
Mouse or trackpad for drawing?
A mouse is usually steadier for long strokes; a trackpad is fine for short ones. Use whichever you have and practise with it consistently.
